Class was almost out and the students had long ago stopped paying attention to the teacher. “Listen up, class!” The teacher yelled as she slammed the white board.  “I know you’re all itching to leave but I’ve got one final thing to tell you.  Prom is in three weeks.  It’s a shorter notice than usual so I suggest you start making plans right now.  Okay, class dismissed!”  Most everyone was already giddy at the thought of prom.

“Hell yeah!  Finally, some good news today!  Hmmm. . . .  Who should I ask?”  Raz exclaimed.  Sparky didn’t seem to share in his enthusiasm.

“Another school event?  These things almost never bode well for me.  And even if I did want to go, I have almost zero chance with anyone.” He said with a sigh.

“Prom . . .” Evangeline said in a daze, staring of in the distance.  “Three weeks . . .  hmm…”

“Yes, Angel, prom is three weeks from now, thanks for the update.”  Daz said sarcastically.  “What of it?”  At that time it seemed like something clicked in Evangeline’s head.

“Oh this will be fun.” She said as a devious smile spread across her face followed by a hint of laughter.

“Angel, what are you planning?”  Daz wasted no time trying to figure out the reason behind her smile, knowing it was probably not good.

“Oh, hey Dazzie!  Just thinking about how crazy prom will be!”  Evangeline said in her typically loud voice.  At the sound of this almost everybody cringed and stopped talking, knowing full well that when Evangeline thought something would be fun and crazy it meant disaster for everyone else.  Sparky took quick notice to Evangeline’s announcement.

“Wait!  Eve wants to go to Prom?!  RAZ!  This is wonderful!”  Sparky seemed to shine.  “Wait . . . Oh no.  How am I going to be able to ask her?  No. . . . I guess it’s just not going to happen.” He said as another sigh seeped out of him.

“Geez, Spark, could you stop being so emo?  You’re going infect me with something if you go on much longer.” Raz leaned closer to Sparky and continued in a low voice.  “Ok, listen up, bud.  I got just the thing for you.”  To Sparky, Raz was a savior right then.  “Come on over to my house later today and I’ll help you out with everything, kay?”

Raz quickly regretted saying this, seeing as how Sparky’s response was a tackle-hug of epic proportions that sent them both to the ground.  “Thankyouthankyouthankyou!”

“Gah!  Spark!  Get off!  Daz!  Help me get this freak off!”  After some long and hard prying, the two guys were separated.  “Don’t.  Ever.  Do.  That.  Again.  Got it, Sparky?”

“Yeah, sorry . . .  I just got a little excited.”  He said, scratching his head embarrassedly, as he smiled up at Raz.

“Ok, good.  Then I’ll see you later Spark.  I’m going to go shower now, seeing as how I just got emo all over me.”  The class had finally died down and everyone finished packing up and left school.

A little after six thirty, Sparky rang the doorbell with pencil and paper in hand.  He heard someone call from inside.  “Coming!”  Raz’s mom opened the door.  “Why hello, Sparky.  Come on in, Raz and Daz are upstairs.”

“Thank you, Raz’s mom!”  Sparky went inside and up to their room.  It was a pretty large room, with a big TV, a Wii, which was being played, and a bunk bed next to the window.  On one half of a wall there were a variety of hand made puppets hung up, a hobby of Raz’s.  On the other side was a stand full of soccer trophies, obviously Daz’s.  “Hey, guys!  I’m ready!”  He sat down in the middle of the floor since Daz was on the bottom bunk and Raz as on the top.

“You’re going to take notes?  You seem a tad bit too serious, Sparky.  Just let me finish beating Raz” Daz was dominating Raz effortlessly at the soccer game on the screen.  It didn’t take long for her to win.

“What?!  How in the world could I lose to you?!”  He yelled as he threw his controller at Daz, who caught it easily.  “ARGH!  Fine you win, go ahead and give him your ‘advice.’” Raz then snatched his favorite puppet off the wall and started playing with it to relieve his frustration.

“Ok, Sparky, you want to ask Angel out to prom, right?  Well it’s your mistake, but I’ll give you some pointers.” Sparky was jotting down her every word.  “First of all, you want to make her laugh.  If you can do that then she’ll say yes.”  She gave Sparky a thumbs-up then took a slight pause.  “Hmmm . . . Well, that’s all I got.”

“Wait, what!?  That’s it?  But- but- but- That doesn’t help!  How do I make her laugh?”  Sparky had on his best puppy dog face.

“Ugh.  Don’t look at me like that, I hate it.”  She shooed him with her hand.  “You should be the one to think of how to make her laugh, or I might as well be the one asking her out.” Daz laid back and started eating some raspberries.

“Hah!  It’s my turn, then!”  Raz quickly put his puppet back in its spot and hopped off the bed, making a thunderous thud upon arriving at ground level.  “Ok, listen up and don’t miss a word, Spark!  I’m an expert in this matter!”  He walked over to Sparky and put his hands on Sparky’s shoulders, looking around like he was making sure no one was spying on them.  “Ok . . . so the number one thing I learned is a secret technique, so you must tell no one about it, got it?”  Sparky shook his head slowly and without a word, overcome by the suspense.  “So here it is:  You.  Must.  Dress like your prey.”  Sparky’s pencil hit the floor while Daz fell off her bed.

“. . . Uhm, Raz?  Are you sure this will work?”  Sparky asked with a very confused face.

“No, no it won’t.  I’m warning you right now, Sparky, you don’t want to listen to my dumb brother.”

“Daz, you had your turn.  It’s mine now.  So zip it!”  He threw a pillow her direction but she lay down on her bed, thus avoiding a direct hit.  “Yes, Spark, I am sure this works.  It has never failed me yet.”

“Uhhhh . . . Daz’s isn’t specific.  But, Raz, yours is plain weird.”  Sparky was darting his head back and forward between the two siblings.  “I’m . . . I’m sorry, I gotta go!”  He bowed his head quickly, and then ran out of the house and back towards his own.

“You are such an ass, Razzle.”  Daz had smacked him on the back of the head.

“Hey!  Don’t call me Razzle!  I hate that name!  Besides, he’s the one who couldn’t choose who to listen to, so it’s his fault.”  Daz just sighed as they both sat there thinking.  Raz decided to break the silence.  “Well as fun as this is, I’m going to play Naruto, wanna join?”  Daz spent a few more seconds gathering her thoughts and then nodded.  They picked up their controllers, preparing for their battle.

Evangeline had just finished dinner and was walking past her room when she heard some noise inside.  She opened her door cautiously to see a sight meant for no one.  Sparky was in her room, going through her closet.  To top it off, he was wearing her clothes: a small pink tank top and a layered white mini-skirt.  These were presents from Evangeline’s parents, and since she hated them, she had hid them in the closet.  “Sparky . . . What are you doing with my clothes?”  Almost not wanting to know.

“I’m, uh . . . trying them on?”

“I can see that.  May I ask why?”

“Because . . . I wanted to . . . get you some clothes?  And . . . I needed to know your . . . size?”

“By putting them on?”

“ . . . Yeah!  So that uh, when I went to go get your clothes I could, uhm, try them on me and I’d compare how they fit to how these fit.  Yeah!” An awkward silence fell over her room.

“. . .  Uh-huh.  Sure.  Would you please excuse me while I go reboot my brain?  Gee, thanks.” She said with a very disturbed look on her face.  She turned around and closed the door, and then heard a bunch of crashing and fumbling in her room.  She quickly reopened her door to find a bunch of her clothes missing, some strewn bout on the floor, her window wide open, and Sparky gone.  She also thought she could here some screaming in the distance, but decided to ignore it and continue with the plan of repairing her broken mind.

Daz was on her bed looking out the window when she heard someone screaming.  She looked down towards the street and sighed.  “Razzle, I hate you.”

“What did I do this time?” He paused his game to see what was up with Daz.

As she tilted her head toward the window she said dryly, “Look out the window, idiot.” Raz went to the window, curious as to where the screaming was coming from and why its volume was increasing.  Right as he looked down he saw Sparky in the tank top and miniskirt running by with a bunch of clothes in his arms and screaming his lungs out.  It wasn’t helping him much, as his screaming was attracting the attention of all of the houses on both sides of the street

“Hah!  Oh my god, I can’t believe it!  He listened to me!  Oh, man, what a dolt!  Hey, come on Daz, this is hilarious!  Why aren’t you even smiling?”

“Because I did NOT need to see that.  I wish I never had seen it and will now put all my thought processes into erasing the mental image left in my head.”  Daz followed this up by planting her face inside the pillow and starting to mumble incoherent phrases.

The next day, Evangeline was busy working in Home Economics class, cooking what looked like a coffee pot made out of a horrible mutant raccoon.  For a while now the girls had been whispering about the same stuff over and over. “Oh my god, I can’t believe he‘s dressed up like that.  I have to go see once class gets out!”

“I know!  I heard he’s even wearing that awful top hat!”  The two girls were staring over in Evangeline’s direction.  At this point Evangeline had become very pissed and was even talking to herself.

“Annoying little blabby queen bees. Do they never shut up? No? And why do they keep staring at me? I'm cooking. Busily. I'm busily cooking. Have they never seen a boxed lunch before? And what the hell is wrong with top hats!? If the teacher wasn’t here, I’d show them what awful really is. With this frying pan. And their faces. Yup, yup.”

She didn’t get to continue much longer because just then someone came bursting into the Home Economics room.  It was Sparky, dressed up in Evangeline’s signature suit and top hat.  He ran over to Evangeline and bowed down before yelling, “Evangeline!  Will you go to prom with me!?”  Her jaw looked like it had been unhinged.

“What the hell are you doing?”  She asked, very confused.

“Uhm, asking you to prom?”

“Besides, that smart one.”  Everyone was backing away from Evangeline since her tone of voice was one that people have a tendency to run from, and she was giving a lot of it.  They were also trying to control their laughter, but the giggling was cut very short by a quick glare from Evangeline.

“Uh, asking you to prom . . . in your . . . clothes?”  Sparky was scared out of his mind, seeing as he was right at ground zero, with little chance of escape.

“Yeah, I can see that.  Why?”

“Well I uh-”

“Choose your words very carefully,” she stated, concentrating on every syllable and seething with irritation; it was something of a struggle for her to speak as slowly as she was.  “Very carefully.”

“Eep. . .  Well . . . Raz told me that this would be the bes- Oh DAMNIT!”  Sparky had finally realized Raz’s plan.

After crossing her arms, she responded, “You are a veritable idiot!”  Evangeline paused.  Then smirked.  This slowly turned into a laugh, which made everyone else hide behind the desks.  Whispers echoed between students, imagining the horrible evils that were going through her head.  “Alright, ok.  I’ll go with you.  You seem like you’ll be quite the entertainment.”  Sparky jumped up from the ground at his success, but wasn’t able to get a word in before Evangeline continued, deathly serious again.  “But on one condition; if you ever, do this again, you won’t live to regret it.”  Smiling once again, she said.  “Other than that?  This will be fun!”

Sparky had stopped moving at her threat, which would have made adults cry.  After committing those words to memory, he finally answered Evangeline.  “Yes!  Thank you so much, Eve!”  He followed this with a great hug.

“Hey!  What the hell!”  She then proceeded to take the nearest frying pan and smack him on the head instinctively.  This unfortunately ended up sending her sad attempt at cuisine flying across the room and onto the nearby door, where it proceeded to slowly slide down its wooden frame.  “Take that you-!  Oh.  Right.  Sorry Sparky.”  After checking him, she announced, “No good, he’s out.  Oh, well, guess I’ll take him to the nurse.  Buh-bye teacher person!”  She grabbed Sparky by the collar and ran out of the room, leaving the class to clean up the horrid mess that went flying out of Evangeline's frying pan.

Prom night had finally rolled around and Sparky knocked on Evangeline’s door.  Upon opening it, Evangeline couldn’t help but tease him about before, “Oh, so I see you’re not coming in through the window tonight.  Nor in my clothes.  Surprising!”

“Man, Eve, can’t you drop it?”

“Nope, way too much fun.  Let’s scram.”

Sparky sighed before smiling and said, “Yeah, let’s.” As they walked off to prom a very different scenario was taking place at Raz’s house.

“NO!  Why do I have to do this!?  I don’t wanna!”  Raz was clawing at the floor, not wanting to leave the house.  “Mom!  Why do I have to go with my sister!?”  Their mom just sat in the kitchen sipping some herbal tea as the two struggled.

Daz figured she’d need to answer since their mom was occupied.  “Stop complaining, Razzle, she said it was your punishment for getting Sparky to do that little stunt.  I’m not happy about it either, so let’s just suck it up and go.  Now.”  Daz was tugging on his shoe and was getting quite tired of having to put so much effort into doing so.

“NEVER!”  Raz hissed.

“Fine then!  You asked for it!”  Daz followed up with a well placed heel drop to the back of Raz’s head, knocking him out.  “I hope he stays like this so I can just leave him at a table.”  She sighed once more before she proceeded to drag him down the street towards prom.
